Social Dialogue: Sterile Negotiations or Fruitful Outcomes?
This event is held in French.
During this work lunch, experts from YEON will introduce you to principled (or integrative) negotiation as an alternative to traditional position-based bargaining, which relies heavily on power dynamics.
This new approach is highly promising. Principled negotiation techniques increase the efficiency of dialogue by moving away from dogmatic positions. They foster collaboration over confrontation and, through their methodology, make it possible to adjust the pace of the dialogue to the time constraints of the stakeholders.
They lead to higher-quality agreements more quickly, replacing long, drawn-out discussions where, in the end, everyone compromises for a half-baked solution that leaves no one satisfied.
According to a research institute in Germany, Belgium is the European champion for strike days. Yet, social dialogue is deeply embedded at every level of our economy (companies, sectors, and cross-industry) and social security: how did we get here? While the causes are complex, we must critically examine our negotiation techniques, and in particular, their core principle: the balance of power.
