Sri Lanka: Explore trade & investment opportunities in this Vital Island

Long synonymous with Ceylon tea, sapphires, and cinnamon, Sri Lanka is now also aiming to position itself as an export-oriented economic hub in the heart of the Indian Ocean — a regional logistics and technology center pursuing trade-driven economic growth.

To raise awareness among Brussels-based companies about business and investment opportunities, Beci invites its members to an interactive session organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Belgium.

H.E. Chandana Weerasena, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium, to Luxembourg and to the EU, has the ambition to interact with the business community in Belgium to share the recent economic growth momentum in Sri Lanka.

This session will also provide insights into trade and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka across sectors such as textiles and apparel, food and beverages, rubber-based products, lifestyle goods, IT, tourism (including investments and joint ventures in leisure and hospitality), financial services, logistics, construction, and more.

Sri Lanka is at a strategic geographical location in the Indian Ocean. It has a dynamic business environment with educated, skilled and highly literate human resources, rich in a wide range of natural resources and infrastructures in constant development. This country with a lower middle income in South Asia with a significant middle class and as a tourist destination, it has many options to discover.

Following a financially challenging period from 2020 to 2023, Sri Lanka’s economy has continued to steadily recover in 2024, undergoing a process of profound transformation.

As it undertakes structural reforms, Sri Lanka is diversifying its exports of goods and services and strengthening the integration of foreign investment into productive sectors.
