1703
Founding of the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB).
Merchants and artisans unite to promote trade and defend their interests.
1802
Renaissance under Napoléon
After being dissolved in 1795, the Chamber was re-established by Napoleon, marking the beginning of a new era for organised trade in Brussels.
1875
Resilience regained
Abolished and then reestablished in the same year, the CCIB proves its essential role in Brussels’ economic life.
1935
Brussels goes international
The Chamber begins issuing certificates of origin for exports, thereby strengthening Brussels’ position in global trade.
1971
The birth of the UEB
36 leading companies establish the Union of Brussels Enterprises (UEB) to represent Brussels-based businesses in a rapidly changing Belgium.
1989
Creation of the Brussels-Capital Region
With the creation of the Region, the UEB becomes the official voice of employers, tasked with representing businesses within the new regional structures.
2000
Avenue Louise 500
The CCIB and the UEB now share the same address, reflecting a natural alignment based on shared interests
2006
The Alliance
The CCIB and the UEB sign a partnership agreement, pool their resources, and adopt a shared identity: Beci – Brussels Enterprises Commerce and Industry.
2024
A new identity
BECI becomes Beci : it is no longer an acronym, but a true brand. A coat of arms, a symbol of unity, pride, and support for Brussels entrepreneurs.
